Gravity Rush Impressions

This screenshot doesn’t do the game justice – it’s gorgeous

I’m still a big gamer geek when I have the time to be; and this game is a great reason to write about it: Gravity Rush on the PS VITA.

LSS: What an incredible game; shame that it wasn’t a launch title!

In Gravity Rush you play as a young lady known as Kat who can control gravity for a short amount of time; effectively making you a super-hero. You wake up ‘mysteriously’ on a rusty, brick, steam-punkish, magical floating city not knowing a thing about what’s happening. There’s a magic cat. There’s a shady lady named Raven who has a… magic raven that looks/feels like your magic cat. She can do more stuff than you, at least at first I’m guessing. There’s some red monsters that you kick a lot. There’s a goofy policeman and a starting quest to make yourself a home so you can save your game (you’ll want to do this so you won’t have to rely on auto-saves).  Too much more and I’d be getting into spoiler territory.

Open world it is; and married with your special powers this makes for a dandy time getting around. But what could have been just a gimmick to sell the PS VITA is so far ridiculously fun and appropriately challenging (as in, you can’t just fly; you have to learn to play the game). The controls are great, but you will experience some vertigo simply due to the nature of Kat’s abilities.  TIP: watch her hair and scarf to remember which way is down ;)

The absolutely beautiful visuals and animations are immediately noticeable; as is the very nice classical-sounding music.  This is a beautifully presented game.

Content (that I’ve seen so far) is pretty tame if you’re a concerned parent.

About 3 hours in… so far? I love it. There is now a top-tier game that’s a good reason to own a VITA.  (No I didn’t care for Uncharted enough to buy it).  HIGHLY recommended.

Black Ops LAN Party on the 27th

This is one of the things my church is doing.  We don’t have a lot of programs geared towards college-agers, but what we do have is pretty awesome :)

Also there’s free food.  If anyone here wants info email me at lylebaker at gmail dot com.  I went all black-ops on my phone number on the poster.

The Modern Warfare 3 Files: Exclusive First Details on the Biggest Game of 2011 – Kotaku.

Over on the gaming blog Kotaku they’ve got the major gaming scoop of the day (of the year, maybe).  Modern Warfare 3 is coming November 8th, 2011.

If you go read this article you will see a few big MW2 spoilers; as well as what might actually be considered spoilers for MW3…

At any rate, the biggest game franchise (not necessarily the best) is back.  Anybody surprised?
